Learning goals
- Explain what generative AI can support and why its outputs require critical review.
- Identify organisational boundaries for information use, consent, verification and accountability.
- Map a recurring workflow, including its inputs, outputs, people, decisions and less-visible work.
- Assess a proposed AI use in relation to judgement, information sensitivity, review capacity and potential consequences.
- Make a justified recommendation to test, modify, postpone or decline a specific use.
Skills you'll gain
Course description
AI can enter an organisation through everyday tasks: drafting emails, preparing reports, summarising information or exploring ideas. But individual experimentation does not automatically create a responsible organisational approach. People need shared expectations about information, quality, decision-making and accountability.
Across four short, self-paced videos and practical reflection exercises, this course takes you through a connected process. You begin by understanding generative AI and its limitations, then consider the organisational agreements needed to govern its use. Next, you map a recurring workflow, making its steps, dependencies, decisions and less-visible work explicit.
Using that map, you assess where AI could appropriately contribute and where human judgement, consultation and approval remain essential. You consider information sensitivity, verification capacity, fairness, potential consequences and responsibility—not simply whether an output can be produced faster.
The course concludes by helping you formulate a justified recommendation and identify what needs agreement, testing or further clarification. Your work provides a starting point for a practical AI-use guide for a specific workflow.
Designed for staff, managers, founders and consultants working with small and medium-sized organisations, the course supports deliberate choices. Deciding to modify, postpone or decline an AI use is as legitimate as identifying an appropriate application.
Requirements
- No technical knowledge or previous experience of AI is required.
- An internet-connected device suitable for watching the videos.
- Paper or a digital space for mapping a workflow and recording reflections.
- Time to pause the videos and complete the short exercises.
